An Intro to Shaker Design

  • Makeville Studio 119 8th St Brooklyn, NT 11215 USA (map)

As part of our collaboration with the Shaker Museum this month, join us for a presentation on Shaker design...

Shaker style, a truly American design aesthetic, endures and is rediscovered by makers in each generation. As American society becomes more divisive it is important to appreciate the relationship between the distinctive elegance of Shaker design and the Shaker values of community, inclusion, gender and racial equality, and compassion.

Shaker Museum staff will present a brief Powerpoint presentation about how Shaker beliefs and practices defined the style and quality of the architecture, furniture, and items which have influenced designers the world over, from Danish makers in the 1920’s to Ellsworth Kelly and even Annabelle Selldorf’s design for the new permanent home for the Shaker Museum collection.
