Woodworking for everyone! Our mission is to educate, inspire and empower people to be makers. We do that by providing affordable and supportive shop space, the right tools for the job, and small classes led by craftspeople who love teaching.

Values

We believe everyone should experience the satisfaction of working with your hands—especially those not traditionally encouraged to pursue woodworking. Makeville Studio is woman/queer-owned and supports values of inclusivity, openness, collaboration, and safe space for all.
In support of those values, some of our classes are labeled Women+ as a way to create space for cis women, trans women, and femme people.

We also offer a scholarship fund to help address financial barriers.

History

Started in 2008 with just a handful of classes and a small shop, Makeville has grown into NYC's top venue to learn woodworking. Our members are a community of craftspeople, artists and makers of diverse backgrounds and skill levels, but we share a common culture of professionalism, shop etiquette and safety. Join us and find out why a shop is so much more than tools and bench space.
